"Shelters break up families" but the truth is quite the opposite, abuse of women created the need for "a place to go."

Emergency Shelter

The Ojibway Women’s Lodge is a secure access short term residence, located by the lake on Nipissing First Nation. Our warm and welcoming home is a peaceful, comfortable environment where women and children can begin to plan for a better, violence free future.

The supportive staff  assist women to identify choices available to them and respect a woman’s right to make her own decisions.

Counseling is available for women and their children who have experienced abuse and/or sexual assault (including historic abuse).

Residence

The shelter is a safe place to stay for women leaving abusive environments.  A woman’s decision to leave will affect her life tremendously and a period of adjustment is to be expected.  Everyone is different. Our staff will work with women so when the time is right for her to move on, she will be ready.

Our front line workers are good listeners, familiar with all the resources and support systems available in the community. They are well equipped to address a woman’s concerns and fears, while providing encouragement, a helping hand so women can realize their full potential in order to rebuild their lives.

There is an accessible room on the main floor.
